About Wikiprogress.stat
Wikiprogress.Stat allows users to upload their data and metadata, and to navigate through a robust database of progress indicators. Users can extract data from across databases, as well as work within individual databases.
Some of the datasets in wikiprogres.stat include the Global Peace Index and the Happy Planet Index. The overall aim for wikiprogress.Stat is to create a global platform that contains a comprehensive list of indicators, for a wide range of regions, over the longest possible time scale.
Tables, graphs and charts created on wikiprogress.Stat will then be used in articles on wikiprogress to illustrate how different progress dimensions have impacted the well-being of particular societies.
Wikiprogress.stat is working to implement a new data visualisation tool, eXplorer, which will allow users to create stories using a range of datasets in wikiprogress.Stat, and to visualise the material in an animated time series. Each visualised story (a vislet) is able to be embedded in wikiprogress articles, on blogs, websites and online journals.
Uploading data to Wikiprogress.stat
If you have progress related data and would like to upload it to wikiprogress.stat, please do so using the wiki-loader wizard. The wiki-loader wizard will walk you through step by step to upload your data, source details and metadata. All datasets are required to be is CSV format. If you have any questions about uploading data or would like any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the wiki team info@wikiprogress.org
What are progress indicators?
We are interested in data that would support articles and also that which could be fed into eXplorer to dynamically view data. We will be happy to upload the data for you so you may view it in the wiki. This will help the wikiprogress to move closer to our goal of creating a robust database of progress indicators. For further details, please see Wikiprogress.stat Guidelines for Content.
Visualizing data from Wikiprogress.stat in the progress eXplorer
Progress eXplorer is a data visualisation tool created by NComVA. It is a planned addition to Wikiprogress. It will allow data from Wikiprogress.stat to be explored using geoanalytic tools such as filters and linked views. Users to analyse and communicate statistics using an interactive interface that combines maps with other visual presentations and to visualise the material in an animated time series.
Stories (visual presentation of data over a given time scale) visualised in eXplorer are called vislet, and are embeddable in wikiprogress articles, on blogs, websites and online journals. See below an example of a vislet below from the OECD Factbook eXplorer 2010.
