About Lles Cymru Wellbeing Wales

The Lles Cymru Wellbeing Wales is a new charity that has developed from the Wellbeing Wales Network as an organisation that aims to make Wales a world leader in promoting wellbeing.  It does this through research, evaluation, training, developing public policy and supporting good practice.  Lles Cymru Wellbeing Wales is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government's Health Challenge Wales Voluntary Sector Scheme grant.

Lles Cymru Wellbeing Wales provides a number of resources to help inform individuals and organisations on what they can do to promote greater wellbeing This includes:

Exploring Sustainable Wellbeing Toolkit

The Exploring Sustainable Wellbeing Toolkit was launched at the All Wales Mental Health Promotion Network in Cardiff in 2011. It took two years to develop the Toolkit with the welcome support of over 17 different partner organisations including the Welsh Government and the New Economics Foundation.

The Toolkit itself is based on a model of sustainable wellbeing (see below). It is a self-help process that guides its users through a process of assessment, followed by a planning session on what changes to make to the project or policy under discussion. The identified changes aim to turn wellbeing from some abstract, academic concept into practical changes on the ground.

Dafydd Thomas, the Executive Director of Lles Cymru Wellbeing Wales and the lead developer of the Toolkit said “Toolkits aren’t for everyone, nor are they the answer to everything. What I hope people find from using this process is that they get the opportunity to learn about wellbeing in the context of their day to day work.”

Dafydd went on to say, “From the piloting the toolkit, the most noticeable outcome of using the Toolkit is the time it gives its users to step back from doing their work and identify the useful but unintended consequences of what they are doing. The Toolkit then helps turn those unintended consequences into real, wellbeing promoting changes that work across imagined policy silos.”

The Exploring Sustainable Wellbeing Toolkit is currently available in hard copy format and on the Lles Cymru Wellbeing Wales website.
